Performing Arts

The New School has a reputation for excellence in the theater arts. Our productions, which range from classical dramas to contemporary, thought-provoking works, have been well-received not only by the school community, but by the greater D.C. theater community and The Cappies, the critics and awards program for high school theater and journalism.

The New School's John Swayze Theater is home to the school’s performing arts courses and award-winning theater productions. Under the direction of Steve Elm, The New School theater produces several plays each year. The mission of the theater is to provide students a venue for artistic and dramatic expression.

One of Northern Virginia’s best know professional theater companies, The Hub Theater (nominated for three Helen Hayes Awards in 2012), is in residence at The New School Theater, and the synergy between the school and The Hub has added a significant dimension to The New School experience for our students.
