Respect & the Rules

1. Each of us deserves respect. The community does not tolerate physical or verbal abuse or threats of any kind, including when playing sports. No abusive, threatening, or obscene language is permitted. This includes the wearing of clothing that depicts violence, violent symbols, or disrespect of others.

2. No weapons of any kind may be brought or made on the premises. Students may not bring toy weapons or use items found on the playground (sticks, rocks, etc.) as play weapons..

3. Smoking paraphernalia is not allowed on school grounds, and will be confiscated on sight.

4. No beepers or cell phones are to be used during school hours except during the lunch period. Students are not allowed to use cell phones to call their parents to pick them up for illness or other reasons -all such calls must be made from the office. Beepers and cell phones must be kept off and out of sight during and between classes or they will be confiscated and held until the end of the school day.

5. Students may not use the office phone except for emergencies and with a phone pass from their teacher. Students may not leave class to make phone calls except in extreme emergency. Students and parents are expected to make after-school arrangements before students arrive at school.

6. Students are not allowed to use the office copier. If a student needs something copied, they must ask the office manager at least two days in advance, and the office will copy it for them if appropriate. Students should plan to use commercial copying facilities for reports and exhibition copying.

7. Students are expected to dress appropriately. A student's dress should not make it more difficult for either a student or a teacher to engage in the learning process. Inappropriate clothing can constitute anything from a display of foul or abusive words to attire that is too revealing. Poor personal hygiene, including extreme dirtiness or body odor, is also inappropriate. A student may be sent home to change clothes or shower if the staff feels it is warranted. Because many classes may have activities that take them outdoors in all but the most inclement weather, students need to arrive at school dressed for the weather. Appropriate attire is required for PE class, and if lacking, may affect the students grade.

8. Students staying after school for a specific reason (committee work, projects, play practice, etc.) must notify the office at least one day in advance of their plans, and must have a teacher present who has agreed to supervise. Students should make transportation plans well in advance of the day they stay late.

9. No student may leave school grounds without permission from an administrator and a parent or guardian. Students are considered at school as soon as they are dropped off in the morning and until they are picked up in the afternoon. Once a student has arrived on campus in the morning, all school rules, including the prohibitions on smoking and leaving campus, are in effect - even before classes have begun.

10. We expect students to respect school property and the property of others. Students who cause property damage will be expected to make repairs or amends where possible. Parents will be billed for damage to property inflicted by their children.

11. No roughhousing is allowed.

12. Students may not play or hang out in the parking lot. Students should adhere to the designated walkways and be careful not to trample the plants that line them.

13. The wooded areas around the building and throughout the Mantua Professional Center are off-limits to students except for the wooded play area outside the lower floor.

14. Students will not be permitted to drive other students on field trips or other school-sponsored outings without administrative and parental permission

15. Students are not allowed to gather in their cars during school hours, including lunches and breaks. All students have access to a locker in which to store personal belongings during the day.

16. Students driving to school MUST park either in the side lot close to the volleyball court or in the lower parking area next to the woods (north side of main drive). Students MAY NOT park in the lots in front of the neighboring businesses and offices in the upper section of Mantua Professional Center.
