The New School holds a dual accreditation by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
SAIS is a voluntary organization of more than 200 independent elementary
and secondary schools throughout the South. SAIS addresses issues of importance
to non-public schools such as organizational excellence, accreditation,
curriculum, professional development, governance, equity, and leadership.
SACS accredits over 13,000 schools and school systems throughout the United
States and overseas. Its mission is: "to help schools improve student
learning through accreditation."
The New School of Northern Virginia has long been affiliated with the Coalition of Essential School (CES) and the National Center for Independent School Renewal (NCISR).
The mission of CES is: “to create and sustain equitable, intellectually
vibrant, personalized schools.” The ten common principles of the CES
offer clear and thoughtful guidelines for The New School and other like-minded
schools across the nation. We meet with other Essential Schools to monitor
and maintain the educational excellence for which we stand.
NCISR is a growing association of schools seriously committed to the work
of renewal and innovation through professional development. The idea for
the Center originated in discussions with administrators and teachers
of five independent schools who are members of the CES. The New School
is a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Branch of NCISR, and actively
participates in weekend workshops for member schools that are held two
or three times per year.
