Honors Program
Seniors who have completed most of their high school requirements can choose to participate in The New School Honors Program. This choice must be made at the beginning of the senior year and requires participants to complete their Senior Exhibitions in the 2nd quarter of the school year. Seniors completing the requirements of the Honors Program receive a special certificate and recognition of their accomplishment at graduation and on subsequent transcripts and college applications.
The Honors Program consists of the following elements:
- A successful Senior Exhibition.
- A well-done Early College Project.
- A specially arranged internship, or a class at Northern Virginia Community College or at George Mason University through their Extended Studies Program. The student would have dual enrollment in the class, meaning he or she can earn both high school and college credit for it. The New School pays the tuition for the NOVA course and for a three-credit GMU course, but for in-state students only. Students should pass the course with a “B” or better.
- At least one AP course at the New School of Northern Virginia. Students should pass the course with a “B” or better.
- One of the two Honors Courses offered during the first and second quarters. If a Senior’s schedule does not permit them to take an Honors Course, he or she can substitute an AP or Advanced Course. Seniors should pass the course with a “B” or better.
